There are several ways that a service member can appear on our list of Georgia recipients.

First, when a Medal of Honor is received the military attributes the medal to a specific State.  So there is an official designation in the Government records for 22 service members..

Second, we also track 5 individuals born in Georgia, but for some reason their medal is attributed to another State.

In the future we plan to track a third category of recipient.  These would be individuals buried in Georgia but were neither born here or attributed here.  These service members essentially "adopted" Georgia as a home after retirement.
